I'm an IT professional and VERY picky when it comes to my laptop. I read the reviews on this and was mixed between the good and bad on here, so I decided to visit a Microsoft Store and check it out on my own. I immediately was amazed how thin and light this was just like a MacBook Air (which I used and had before). I compared this to the Samsung series 9 laptop and although yes I wish it had a non-glossy screen it still beats it in price tag and performance.
Pros: -Laptop does not show any traces of fingerprints (which annoyed me with other laptops) -Screen is very crisp and clear. Yes, its glossy but its a "comfortable glossy" like the macbook air -Keys are very responsive and comfortable. You do have to press a bit more but I easily got used to it. -The touchpad is the best I've ever used on any Windows laptop. Very smooth and responsive like a macbook. -Great performance as it has the i5 processor -Super fast bootup and screen on/off... Read more

So, I won this thing on the Acer A Day Give Away. (So - I might be a little biased, cause they just gave me a free computer.)
I was sort of in the market for a new laptop, and I really was not looking for a ultrabook. I'm more of a big clunky machine with a big screen and all the bells and whistles type of guy. Imagine my surprise when I got this thing and have found that I really, really like it. I don't have an issue with the noise, nor do I mind the lack of CD drive. I think the start up time is fast, and the laptop overall is a great little machine. It feels really sturdy to me, despite the light weight. I really like that it does not get hot... like, at all. I had it running on battery power for nearly 4 hours the other day, shut it off, and felt the underside. It was tepid. I read reviews before I got the laptop that the keys were an issue. Some people complained about the keys not having the right amount of heft, which caused them to miss keys, or were... Read more

I had this ultrabook for a week now and I can say it's amazing so far. It's thin, light, fast and comfortable. It looks good, it's quiet and cool (I mean temperature). Before I bought this I read all the reviews available online. I completely understand the reviewers have to criticize something but for me this computer works perfectly well. For example, many people say that the keys are too short. In my opinion the keys are comfy. The screen is not the best, but it's very good. This is not a gamer computer; it's for the ones that need to carry it from one place to the other. Taking into account its size and weight, I couldn't expect more from this machine. I come from a ThinkPad that is a heavy duty. I can see this computer is not as strong as the ThinkPad, but it's on a different league if you take into account the price you pay for one of the smallest computers available. The Core i5 it's powerful enough for the tasks I perform (Web, Excel, Word, some Photoshop). The SSD for... Read more

I was looking for a laptop/notebook to connect to my 60" flat-screen television. A fair amount of research led me to choose this unit as it was low-priced (~350), offered solid graphics performance in the dual-core AMD E-350 APU, integrated HDMI output connection, decent-sized hard drive and running Windows 7 (64-bit). Only minor negative associated with this unit is it only has 2Gb memory installed. However, that 2Gb is on one stick and unit has a second slot available.
I purchased a stick of Crucial CT25664BC1067 2GB 204-PIN PC3-8500 SODIMM DDR3 Memory Module for ~20 bucks to address this shortcoming. Installing it was a breeze. Just remove the two screws securing the hard drive/memory access panel and insert a flat blade screwdriver at the indentation of door and work it around the panel. The panel is retained by a collection of small tabs spaced about an inch or so apart around the perimeter of the panel. Just work the flat blade screwdriver around the panel,... Read more

You won't read about these on Acer's website, and perhaps I'm a bit nitpicky when it comes to computer aesthetics, but the machine runs just fine. Durability is a tossup these days, so I'll skip all that and give you one or two quirks about the computer. These are the things that I notice immediately when I buy a new machine, so hopefully it will help you out.
Pros: -The full numerical pad is welcome. A lot of laptops don't have this feature and I find it useful. -USB ports: it's got three of them; two on the left and one on the right which is ideal for power users. -The AC adapter is tiny but features a three prong outlet, bear in mind that you'll have to use an adapter for two plug outlets. -Battery life is going to be a lot longer than advertised for light use. I seem to be getting about 5 hours out of it, as long as the display is kept dim. -Feels slimmer than other laptops, though you can gather that from the specs I'm sure. -It's got this... Read more

Great laptop, battery life is about 5 hours for normal use. Easy to type on and the number pad is a big plus. The AMD E350 apu is still good for some gaming I can play left 4 dead 2 and fallout new vegas with no lag. Defiantly not a high end laptop but for only 400 its a great deal, however I do recommend getting another 2gig stick of ram as it runs a lot better on 4gig.

I bought this laptop from Micro Center because I saw it on sale for $279 and needed a new computer. I basically try to keep things until they go bad, my computer previous to this one was like a 1996 Award Tower with a basic Dell Screen. Very slow, with a 6 GB hard drive. It got to the point where it was too slow for me to do my work efficiently and couldn't even watch 360p videos on Youtube. I always try to save money and try to purchase items that offer the most for the money. This laptop was an excellent choice. I've had it for about a month so far and I am so happy with it. The performance is excellent, its not sluggish at all, the keyboard is nice and comfortable, and the HD graphics and LED screen are wonderful. Two minor complaints I have is that I couldn't connect to my WiFi and had no idea why it kept disconnecting. I had to uninstall the Norton virus protection that came with the computer and then the internet is working fine. It kept blocking it and driving me crazy, so now... Read more

This is a pretty nice notebook. The wide screen is crisp and clear. Default resolution of 1366 x 768 is quite acceptable. I paid 280 and bought a 4 GB memory module for 18 bucks. If you are upgrading the memory remove ALL the screws on the bottom of the notebook. Don't forget the 4 screws inside the battery compartment, and keep them separate from the others as they are smaller. All the other screws are the same size. Once all the screws are removed the back should come off. There are no ribbon cables to worry about. You just set the notebook upside down on a cloth on a table, remove all screws and pull the back plastic off. My fingernails are short and I was still able to gently pry the back off without a tool. If the DVD door cover comes off don't panic, just snap it back into place. Insert memory in the blank slot and screw it back together. remove the entire Presto, you have 6 GB memory. This is a snappy little notebook for under 300 clams. My Scores are Processor 5.3, RAM 5.5,... Read more

Like Jared, I also picked this up at Micro Center. In my case, for only $249! As someone who remembers working on IBM XT personal computers, it is astounding to consider the power and performance that can now be had for a pittance.
I am an Apple user, but so far I have been reasonably well impressed with Windows 7. I downloaded Open Office (I absolutely detest the Microsoft "ribbon" interface) which runs great, and the machine streams movies well. BTW, apparently it is running a 64 bit version of Windows.
I did install 4 megs of additional memory at the suggestion of the sales guy - it cost about $20 - so I cannot swear the streaming would be quite as good with only 2 meg. I can also attest to the fact that you do indeed have to remove 20-something screws and take off the back of the case to install ram. Though the whole process still only took about 20 minutes.
The keyboard is a little weird, in that the keys are sort of like large Chiclets that... Read more
